Taylor Swift - Wildest Dreams

Back To School Advice

Since  school is right around the corner for some of us, or those who have started school already best luck to all of you who have just started. Anyways, I figured I share a little advice for upcoming freshmen in high school or college, it doesn't matter which one you are this applies to any person in school. Ok here we go,
  Freshmen Advice
1. Do not worry about what other people think
I can't stress this enough especially in high school, there are too many people who value more the opinion of other people then their own opinion. Please value yourself, you have opinions, thoughts, and feelings just like every other person has.
2. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day
Breakfast is important to have every morning because one : you will be energized and two: it gets you ready to take on a long day of school.
3. Have a planner
This is a good thing to have because it will help you be more organized when it comes to assignments, deadlines, and exams. For me, I color code my classes in my planner, and it helps me keep track of my assignments.
4. Stay hydrated
As people, we are made up of  20 percent of water therefore, water is good to have handy during a long school day.
5. Mental- Health Days
All this means is that you take a day where you check in on yourself and how you are feeling, if you're feeling stressed, then this is a day where you can let go of your stresses and things like that. I have found that this has helped me in my experience. Now, this does not mean everyday, just once in a while.
That's it for my back to school advice, hope you guys enjoyed it. Good luck to everyone in the school year. :)

Finding Audrey Review

This is my first Sophie Kinsella book and I loved it! It was great, the characters were amazing.Audrey and her family were funny, crazy moments at time but they still loved each other. Audrey'd character development in the book was done well, it never felt rushed. I really liked the documentary aspect of it that she had to do as part of her therapy, it felt like she was a Youtuber.
Her family is hilarious from her mom to her brother, one of m favorite scenes would have to be the mom and frank scenes because they were really funny. Of course, it is a contemporary so there is obviously a love interest that comes in the form of Linus. Now Linus as a character was a good character, his moments with Audrey were sweet. The ice-cream scene was cute. But, I think the only thing I didn't like about him was that he never tried to understand Audrey's anxiety. The dares they did and the way he got mad at her for deciding to do a certain thing. I think that Linus's view on her condition should been shown more, at least in m opinion. It felt like he was just there to be her love interest, and that's fine. but at least try to understand where she's coming from. They all made up with him in the end. The confrontation with Audrey and one of the girls who bullied her was intense because i thought that she was going to have a breakdown. Her fight with Linus before the meeting, was done in a amazing way, it showed Audrey standing up for herself, which unfortunately had to be with him but I feel that that was the push she needed.
The ending was satisfying, i loved how it ended with her talking to the camera and actually being in the documentary. It shows how she's developed from just filming to talking and finally showing her self on camera

Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created here at The Broke and the Bookish. This feature was created because we are particularly fond of lists here at The Broke and the Bookish. Today it is Top Ten Books That Would Be On Your Syllabus If You Taught X 101

If I was Teaching a YA Lit 101 class, these ten books would be on my syllabus

1. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
This book is narrated by death and it is during WWII while it is seen through the eyes of a young german girl. This book is important because it has many themes such as death, innocence, ethics, friendship, love, family, the importance of words.
2. To All The Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han
This book is great because it is a coming of age book about a girl dealing with her family, coming into her own, and learning from the people around her. Themes in the book include korean culture, friendship, family, sister relationships, romantic relationships, loyalty.
3. Stolen by Lucy Christopher
Incredible book that should be discussed in all school, it broadens the perspective on strangers and how to not trust someone, also it brings in the issue of Stockholm Syndrome, that is rarely discussed in books.
4. All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven
This book is an eye-opener on the stigma concerning bipolar disorder, depression, suicide, it talks about these themes in a realistic way.
5. Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson
I had to read this book freshmen year of high school and i loved it. The portrayal of a young girl who is coming into terms with the fact that she was raped, and the repercussions  that come with that. While navigating through feelings of sadness, anger, confusion, it is an incredible book that should be talked about. The topic of rape is a very serious issue and this book addresses it in a realistic way.
6. The Fault in our stars by John Green
i don't even need to say anything, it's john green.
7. Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson
one of the first books i read, the themes of friendships, family, bullying, and imagination is beautiful.
8. Anne of Green Gables by Lucy M. Montgomery
Loved it, would be good to teach in elementary schools.
9. To Kill a Mocking Bird by Harper Lee
The world is seen through a 6 year old as she experiences the world around her. Themes in racism, povery, innocence, social class, and ,many more.
10. The Perks Of being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
I can't praise this book enough,  can be taught in any school. the messages are amazing.

Anne Of Green Gables Review

This was a beautiful book. the story was incredible. I loved Anne's character growth throughout the book from ages 11-16. I was surprised because normally a character ages throughout a series, i was glad it happened in the first book. Anne and Gilbert, omg the ending was great! . I have seen all the Anne of green gables movies so i do know what happens, but still i'm going to be continuing the series.Anne of Green Gables
5 stars

“Gilbert took from his desk a little pink candy heart with a gold motto on it, “You are sweet,” and slipped it under the curve of Anne’s arm. Whereupon Anne arose, took the pink heart gingerly between the tips of her fingers, dropped it on the floor, ground it to powder beneath her heel, and resumed her position without deigning to bestow a glance on Gilbert.”

Feminism: Rowan Blanchard

I love the show Girl Meets World and the actors do an amazing job on the show. One of the actors, Rowan Blanchard recently wrote an essay to a fan about what she thought about white feminism and I'm in love with her response to it. So, I thought that I would share with you guys, the essay. It's one of my favorites and I think it captures the concept of it well.

"I have made a very big point at making sure my personal feminism includes everyone- and educating myself and discussing these topics have really helped.
Issues that are commonly thought of as feminist issues include sexual assault, rape, abortion, Planned Parenthood, domestic violence, equal education, and the wage gap. Feminists have also adopted marriage equality and gay/lesbian rights as their issue which is wonderful.
However, with as many issues as feminists have succeeded in adopting, many of us seem to have not accepted the fact that police brutality and race issues are our issues too.
“White feminism” forgets all about intersectional feminism. The way a black woman experiences sexism and inequality is different from the way a white woman experiences sexism and inequality. Likewise with trans-women and Hispanic women. While white women are making 78 cents to the dollar, Native American women are making 65 cents, black women are making 64 cents, and Hispanic women are making 54 cents. KimberlĂ© Crenshaw said it perfectly in 1989 when she said “The view that women experience oppression in varying configurations and in varying degrees of intensity. Cultural patterns of oppression are not only interrelated, but are bound together and influenced by the intersectional systems of society. Examples of this include race, gender, class, ability, and ethnicity.” This includes trans women especially, who have been robbed of their souls when they are told they are not “real women” It is SO important to protect trans women and trans youth as they are incredibly at risk when it comes to sexual assault and hate crimes. People also seem to forget that black women are victims of police violence too- from Sandra Bland to India Clarke- a trans woman who was beaten to death in Florida just a month ago.
We are so quick to applaud white women for commenting on race issues/discussions like #BlackLivesMatter, and #SayHerName, but when a black girl comments on it- she is told she is overreacting or being angry.
Comments like the ones you mentioned in your question drive me insane. I have personally seen men get called gay/ f**/ pu*** for wearing anything even remotely feminine. Gay is simply not an insult. Also, let’s not forget that black men cannot wear hoods without being stereotyped as thugs.
To only acknowledge feminism from a one sided view when the literal DEFINITION is the equality of the sexes is not feminism at all. We need to be talking about this more. Discussion leads to change". Xo, Row

Landline Book Review

Landline

Before, I start this review, i just to let you guys know that i wrote this review at like 2 in the morning so it may be all over the place. ok, here we go!
This book was good, not great but still enjoyable. The character of Georgie was interesting because she's a workaholic and she's trying to save her marriage and her two kids along with it. Now, I'm not married nor do I have kids, and that's ok. Either way I could relate to how Georgie reacted in certain situations. Other times, not so much. It seems like most of the book is her deciding to go see her family for Christmas. On to Neal, from the beginning, you can see that Neal is kind of a hard person to approach, I'm gonna be honest, I didn't really like that much, I don't know what Georgie saw it him. I think I liked past Neal better. That reminds me, in the story Georgie tries to call Neal from an old landline phone at her mom's house and ends up talking to Neal from 1998, the week before he proposed to Georgie. I know, I was a little confused by this part because i wasn't sure how it was going to work. It ended up working in the end. Now, the ending. I don't know if it's me but it felt anti-climactic, you know in those Lifetime Christmas movies at the end where the main character realizes what they were missing and the scene fades out. That's how the ending felt for me, at least. One last thing, there is a couple from one of Rainbow's previous books that do make an appearance in the end,,i knew who they were as soon they were described. When i found out, i fangirled because there's an update on them even though they're not named, you can tell by the hints they give. Highly recommend this book especially around Christmas since this book takes place around that time. I rated this book  4 stars. :)

August Book Haul

The books that I bought from Barnes and Nobles are
Inland by Kat Rosenfield, Landline by Rainbow Rowell and Finding Aubrey by Sophie Kinsella
These books are for my August TBR, also Finding Aubrey is my first Sophie Kinsella book that I will be reading so I'm very excited, I heard that she writes funny chick-lit books so I can't wait to check it out. In addition, i'm reading Landline because 1) It's Rainbow Rowell, how can you not read anything by her, this will be my third book from her,  I have read both Fangirl and Eleanor and Park, loved both of them. I heard that there is a cameo of one of the couples from one of her previous books, i suspect that they are Cath and Levi from Fangirl. It just makes sense considering where the story takes place.
That's all for now. I'm starting with Landline today. I will have my reviews of all the books when I have finished them. Thanks guys, and happy reading :)
